Amazon Kindle Desktop Reader

Looking for information on electronic book readers?
I have no idea about them, but im interested to a computer I one.What desktop (no wireless router, obviously) so how I can get the books? Should I buy a wireless router or I can buy some wire and hang it in my modem for internet? I have no idea how everything works. So how I can buy books there are specific sites for certain e-readers? (Like the Kindle, do u have to buy books from Amazon?)
Some come with eReaders not need 3G wireless router. For the Kindle, you buy on Amazon. Not I'm sure, but I think everyone else can get eReader books from multiple sources. I do not think the Nook for example, must obtain the books of B & N. I think he borders can read the books. But there's no Kindle book. I have a 3G version of the Kindle. Books can be purchased on the Amazon site, or directly on the Kindle browsing Kindle Store.
